Yokohama, 18 June 2025: The timber sector in Ghana, China and other key countries posted further growth in May, even as others including Brazil and Malaysia remained in the doldrums, according to the latest Global Timber Index (GTI) report.

Rome, 10 June 2025: Wildfires have dominated global headlines in recent years. In 2024, the hottest year on record, fires consumed vast swathes of tropical forests. “There is a growing need and importance to focus on fire in the tropics,” said Jennifer Conje, Director of Forest Management of the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), as she opened the side event “Responding to Changing Dynamics of Fire Behavior and Integrated Fire Management in the Tropics” held during the Global Fire Management Hub Plenary in Rome on 10 June 2025. 

Yokohama, 19 June 2025: It is with profound sadness that the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) announces the passing of Mr James Singh, former Commissioner of Forests and one of the most distinguished and dedicated leaders in the forestry sector, both nationally and internationally. Mr Singh served as Commissioner from 1999 to 2020, making him one of the longest-serving heads of the GFC. His tenure was marked by visionary leadership, institutional strengthening, and a relentless pursuit of sustainable forest management and conservation.

Since its establishment in 1989, the ITTO Fellowship Programme has enabled more than 1400 young and mid-career professionals from 50 countries to strengthen their expertise in tropical forestry and improve their career prospects.
